  8. <note: this is a free-form piece, meaning is kind of clouded,
  9. kind of intentionally done that way, perhaps a little bit of
  10. some kind of extended metaphor can be seen in this.. maybe not.>

  12.     He was mean. Hyperbaggy jeans overlapping his trendy Vans
  13. slapping against the sidewalk, hopping over the cracks and drifting
  14. off into a payphone jutting out the brightly lit city street. Lifts 
  15. the receiver, up to the ear, flat dialtone. Fingers racing across
  16. the keys, ringing in the ear, pounds a few more keys, kerchunk.
  17.  
  18.     Buzzing. Rings of dark unfulfilled sleep encircle his
  19. fluorescent blue eyes. Pushes bits of bleached blond hair back
  20. and pops in his headphones. Dark, brooding, violent music. Slips
  21. out the door into the musty day, bookbag hunching him over, loaded
  22. with the weight of information.
  23.  
  24.     The bookstore is spread out. Cashier behind the counter,
  25. picking nose or doing something else perhaps even less trivial.
  26. Vans slap carpet, walls of information adorn the environment. Steps
  27. into the computer section, flip, flip, flip goes the pages of the
  28. book, remove tag, drop in bookbag. Spin around, dash out the door.
  29.  
  30.     Down the street and into the pizza parlor. Smells of grease
  31. and baking bread. Goes for a coke and a slice of pizza. Police car
  32. creeps by, brown haired cop, dopey and beady little eyes masqueraded
  33. behind a pair of thick black lenses. The bridge of his nose slightly
  34. offsets them, permanent scowl resides on his face. Gun comes out of
  35. his pocket, fires off a few rounds, no one notices in the big city.
  36.  
  37.     He walks out onto the streets, eyes darting from side to
  38. side, paranoia sweeping in like mad. Runs like he's on fire down
  39. the street and hops right over and into the barrel of an awaiting
  40. officers gun. Down on your knees and hands behind your back. Stiff
  41. kick to the ribs, belted across the face with a pistol. Nose bleeds
  42. profusely, fear, oppression, anger.
  43.  
  44.     In the cruiser, down the street, into town hall. Walks up
  45. the marble steps, slipping and crashing down on his knee. Jeans
  46. tear. Vans slap across the floor of an entirely mundane building.
  47. Electric sensors strapped to his body, questioning begins.
  48.  
  49.     '2+2 is 4.' False. Zap. '2+2 is 4.' False. Zap. '2+2 is 4.'
  50. Fuck you. Crunch, cheek bone plastered by the barrel of a gun,
  51. caressing it in a not so friendly manner.
  52.  
  53.     'Accept our truth, don't look for your own answers. No
  54. more problems, no more knowledge, ignorance. Understand, accept,
  55. love the system. Fortune is yours.'
  56.  
  57.     Fuck you, deep scowl from he who wears the vans. Bullet
  58. in the eye to suppress the man who could bring the end to the lie.

  60.     Shoes sure look battered.
  61.  
  62.     Knowledge is power, keep them ignorant, keep your power.
